Parkview Playschool, is a full-day, child day care facility for families in Athens who could not otherwise afford day care. The school was founded in 1967 with a volunteer staff from First Baptist Church (FBC) and met 2 days a week. By 1971 a kindergarten program with a director and teachers was established. Currently the school employs 5 staff members and serves 37 children between 18 months and 3 years of age.
FBC supports Parkview playschool through donations of supplies and materials (mittens, school supplies, etc.), volunteer time (from spreading mulch and building playscapes to painting the facility), and financial support. FBC also hosts the annual Thanksgiving dinner for the children and their families.
Parkview Playschool Inc., located at the corner of Broad St. and Newton St., is a joint venture between First Baptist Church, the Athens Housing Authority, DFACS and the US Department of Agriculture.
