Sunday School
9:45-10:45am
Sunday School has always been one of the most important parts of any youth ministry, and ours has had a makeover! Students are welcome to gather a few minutes early and enjoy some donuts and juice and play some games in the newly re-decorated youth area.
The Corner begins with some announcements and prayer time. After that, the sixth graders will leave the large group for their own bible study (more about that in a minute). The rest of our students (7th-12th) will stay with Matt as a large group. This year, we are covering a range of topics including (but not limited to): Baptist distinctives, Judaism, Islam, World Religions, Mythology, Forgiveness, Grace, Good Grieving, Being Thankful, Advent, Racism, War, Poverty, Evolution, Being Missional, Spirituality, Family Systems, Stewardship, and Making Good Choices.
For 20-30 minutes, we will talk/learn/think about a specific topic. After that, the youth will break off into their Family Groups (7th&8th; 9th&10th; 11th&12th). The family groups will then spend 5-10 minutes talking together about what they have just heard and putting any questions that they may have or ideas that may have surfaced for them down on paper. We have a great group of adults who are willing to help facilitate this process.
Our Sixth Graders meet in their own separate class after we split up from the big group shortly after 10am on Sundays. Their curriculum focuses on the history and content of the books of Holy Scripture as well as other particulars about our church and being baptist. It is a good curriculum that we have been using for several years which gives some good foundation for what they will be learning in the years to come.
